Recovery and Race

I know it’s been a little while since I posted.  I took a nice mental and physical break from ironman training last week.  It was our ‘recovery week’, and I had scheduled a weeks vacation up north to coincide.  It can get to be a little much when your whole life revolves around training schedules, sleep schedules, eating right, etc.  So it was really nice to take a week off from all that and just enjoy some time with my son and my mom up north.  We swam, fished, went for boat rides, all that good stuff.  I did get in a few short runs and a few short swims, which was good, but those were actually fun.  🙂

Got back into training mode this week, and I’m now sitting here the day before my first Half Ironman race.  The weather appears to be cooperating, with nice mild temperatures, and a light wind.  I’m both excited and nervous.   I really just want to finish and hopefully feel like I still have some gas in the tank.  I know it’s a race and I shouldn’t ‘leave anything on the course’, run hard, blah blah blah.  But I need a little confidence boost that I can do this x2.  So finishing with a smile and feeling good are my goals.
